PBC Teen Philosophy of MinistryGod
has ordained the parents to be the primary
persons involved in the spiritual development of
their children. Regardless of all that the
parents and youth leaders do, we realize that,
except the Lord work in a person's heart, no
positive change will be realized. We also
understand that our input into a teen's life can
be useful, but is also limited.
The Foundation for the Youth Ministry at PBC is
none other than the Word of God. We hold it in
high esteem and take every opportunity to
present it as inerrant, inspired and life
changing. We believe that God has graciously
given us the opportunity to know Him as our
personal Savior. For those who are believers, He
desires them to walk faithfully according to His
Word.
"For the Word of God is living and active and
sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing
as far as the division of soul and spirit, of
both joints and marrow, and able to judge the
thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews
4:12)
Our goals are as follows:
To be responsible with
the teens the Lord brings our way by:
I. Teaching them
the Word of God.
A. Making
certain they know the Lord as their
Savior.
B. Encouraging them to be students
of God's Word.
II. Helping teens
walk with God.
A. Helping them
to understand personal commitment to
the Lord.
B. Providing opportunities for them
to evangelize their friends.
C. Integrating them into service
projects.
Inside the Youth Ministry
at PBC -
Sunday School - usually
attracts a variety of teens. Some are there out
of habit, some out of desire, and some because
Mom or Dad made them come. It can be a
challenging class to teach. Our Sunday morning
class generally includes the following:
- Opening Prayer
- Welcome and
Announcements
- Lesson (Generally
30-45 minutes)
Activities - are
offered for both the Junior High and Senior High
- usually one a month. These vary from miniature
golf to a late night trip for broomball at the
PanAm Plaza. All activities are generally
planned with the intent of encouraging our teens
to reach out to their unsaved friends. We
therefore discourage our teens from bringing
teens from other Bible believing churches as our
desire is for our teens to reach out to the
unsaved! The Gospel is presented at nearly all
of these activities. We also strongly encourage
the teens to share their faith with their
unsaved friends.
Camps - are a great way
for us to get to know the teens better. We try
to offer a variety of camps. Some of our camps
are designed for outreach. Others, like a
missions trip or a music tour are designed for
believers to learn to use the gifts that God has
given them to make a difference in the world.
Ministry Opportunities -
vary for our teens. We are involved in a
monthly rest home ministry. We work with other
PBC ministry coordinators so that our teens have
opportunities to serve, but are not constantly
missing church services. We recommend that teens
only miss church services once a month in order
to serve in other ministries.
Discipleship Classes -
for the teens are offered at different times
during the year. They usually range from 8-12
weeks and require a serious level of commitment
by the participants. These classes vary in
content. They include Bible Study Methods, New
Testament Survey, Evangelism, etc. They are
excellent opportunities for teens to develop
their Bible knowledge and skills. |
